Notes:

The Champion paper mill provides Bucksport with a strong base in non-durable manufacturing. While wages are somewhat higher in durable goods manufacturing, these industries tend to have more severe cycles in need for workers. Non-durable manufacturing wages are generally higher than all but the higher level professional portions of the service and retail sectors.
While manufacturing is generally good for the economy, and provides high levels of tax support for towns, some manufacturers pollute the air and water and discourage other forms of investment.

Bucksport Industry Classification

Non-durable (paper) manufacturing dominates Bucksport’s employment market.

Other large sectors include retail traded, education, construction (cyclical), and a variety of service industries.

Non-durable manufacturing is a very desirable employment base, characterized by good wages and employment stability.

Manufacturing is more likely to pollute air and water than other sectors.
