Hancock County Reported Cases of Child Abuse and Neglect

Monthly data indicate a modest rise in reports. The peak month in 1999 was August.

Approximately 10% of students in grades 5 through 8 who participated in the Bucksport School Department Survey on Drugs, Alcohol and Violence reported seeing harassment, threats, abuse and fighting in the home.

Monthly data indicate a modest rise in reports during summer months. The number of families in Hancock County increases quite dramatically during the summer months. Stress for parents may also increase during this period with children out of school and heavy work demands associated with summer tourism.
