Ellsworth 10:00-11:30am:  “Signing and Playing with Your Baby” – an informal playgroup for babies, toddlers and their parents.  Presented by Parents Are Teachers Too, lead by Holly Kerns, PATT parent.  You will meet with other parents who want to learn how to communicate with their babies and young children through sign language.  Learn how sign language can help babies and parents communicate, even before the child can speak.  For more information, call Holly at 422-8902 or Cathy Jacobs at PATT, 1-800-492-5550

Ellsworth 5:00-7:00pm:  “Suicide Survivors Support Group” at the Hospice House at 14 McKenzie Avenue, Ellsworth.  8 week support group will continue to meet every Tuesday through September 14th.  Pre-registration is necessary.  FMI, contact 667-2531.

8/11/04: Ellsworth 9:30-11:00am: Foster and Adoption Informational Meetings held at the Department of Human Services, 17 Eastward Lane, Ellsworth.  Call 667-1600 to learn more about the business of becoming / being a foster parent.

 

8/13/04:  Ellsworth 9:30-10:30am:  Parents Are Teachers Too presents their second “Family Sing-along” at the Unitarian-Universalist Church of Ellsworth, 121 Bucksport Road, for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and their families.  “We’ll sing familiar songs and learn new ones.  Bring guitars, etc if you wish, or just bring yourselves” FREE.  FMI, call Cathy at 667-5304, ext. 225.

 

August 13-15, 2004:  East Sangerville:  “Pine Tree Hospice Children’s Bereavement Camp” for children ages 10-15 who have had a loss of a loved one or have someone terminally ill.  Activities include song writing, art, hiking, campfires, swimming and many other activities.  The camp is free of charge.  FMI and applications, contact 564-4346.

9/16/04: Bar Harbor 5:00pm-7:30pm (10 Thursdays) “Creating Lasting Family Connections” is a family enrichment program that increases communication and bonding between parents and youth ages 12-17.  CLFC increases communication and bonding between parents and youth, helps parents to provide a healthy family environment, and guides youth to develop personal responsibility.  Parents and youth attend separate, parallel sessions focusing on topics relevant to each group’s issues and concerns.  Each meeting begins with a potluck supper and then parents and youth split off into separate groups.  The program consists of three components, including an alcohol and drug prevention unit.  Childcare for younger siblings may be provided based on demand.  Please contact Vanessa Tillman at 288-5331 or vanessa@healthyacadia.org for more information or to register for this FREE program.
