Date 2/15/02 PRESS RELEASE Healthy Hancock a coalition for Community Health is pleased to announce a partnership with Eastern Maine Medical Center in presenting Move and Improve.The Move and Improve program was established by EMMC in 1996 to motivate individuals to make healthy lifestyle choices that will enhance their well-being. The foundation of the Move & Improve effort is a free, 12 week program with the primary goal to reduce the risk of disease associated with physical inactivity. Move and Improve gets underway on March 10, 2002. The goal for 2002 is to have more than 11,000 Maine people of all ages become physically active, 30 minutes a day, four days per week beginning with the 12 week program. Those that complete the challenge will be eligible for prizes awarded at the Celebration on June 19th at The Bangor Civic Center. Knowing that heart disease is the leading cause of death and disabilities in Maine, the Move and Improve program is designed to work at reducing the risk of heart disease through the healthy behavior of being physically active.
