For Immediate Release

MDI Tomorrow is hosting a COMMUNITY DESIGN PIZZA PARTY

Friday, March 12th from 6-9pm at the Harbor House in Southwest Harbor.

Do you feel like you have no say so in how the island is developing? Do you want to be involved, but feel overwhelmed by the town planning process and zoning language and don¹t know where to begin? Then please join us! Mount Desert Island community members are invited to be ³architects and town planners for a day² during a community design and pizza party this Friday.

The design party will begin with free pizza and an opportunity to socialize with your neighbors. There will then be a presentation summarizing the island¹s past, current and future development trends (based on past and current land-use ordinances). Following the presentation, you will help ³plan² the development of two island sites using large-scale site plans of each property, legos, yarn and the assistance of island-based design professionals.

The purpose of the design party is to explore residents¹ preferences for the future of their communities on Mount Desert Island, and to help people understand crucial planning elements and make more informed, pro-active decisions about creating places where they want to live and work. By participating YOU will:

... Help shape the future by expressing yourself in a fun, informal environment;

... Learn about the design process and how it is influenced by the Land Use Ordinances, which MDI residents put in place by their votes at Town Meeting; and

... Enjoy working with and meeting your neighbors.
